Gatherings

Humans are hard-wired for community! We love to gather in groups of different sizes, and research has shown that without human contact, we do not thrive; we are less than our true selves. At Southside, a major part of our purpose is helping people come together to experience the warm community for which we were made.

We seek to provide a number of different venues in which people can find a sense of belonging:

  • Celebration Services: Sunday mornings at 10:30 we meet in a group of 150-200 people, for our largest and most public gathering of the week. Musicians, pastors and other members of the congregation lead us in a corporate experience of worshiping God together.
  • Mid-sized groups: There are plenty of options available for those who are looking to meet with others in a slightly smaller, more social setting:
    •  The Missions Workshop is a gathering of 20-30 men and women who meet one Thursday a month to work on various projects such as sewing quilts to send overseas through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries ,or to the needy in our own city; doing maintenance jobs around our building; creating and filling shoeboxes for the Samaritan's Purse, and lots of other good stuff!
    • Sports: in the winter, it's volleyball in our gym on Monday evenings at 7:00. In the summer, we always field a team in the Edmonton Lutheran Mixed Slo-Pitch League. It's a great chance to have fun together and get to know others in a casual and relaxed atmosphere!
  • Small groups: for those seeking relationships in a smaller, personal setting, we offer a  Sunday School class, which meets to study God's Word together on Sunday mornings at 9:15 (September through June). There are also lots of other group-life possibilities throughout the week (see the separate page on this site for more information).
  • Friendship: nothing in life is more precious than close, intimate relationships in which we can share life together with dear friends, heart-to-heart. And there is no more powerful way for our lives to make a difference than through close conversation with our friends and fellow disciples. So at Southside, we do our best to create the conditions in which friendship can flourish. We think it's one of the best things we can do!
